Of Indo-Arab heritage, Imaan Joshi was born in the village of Variav, in the Surat District of Gujarat, India. She attended National Institute of Technology, Surat, and eventually applied to the Indian Space Research Organisation as a test pilot and field researcher stationed at Thumba Equatorial Rocket Launching Station, Kerala. She is here in the States on a temporary teaching assignment at Chilcott University, with a PhD in Mechanical Engineering and the Humanities.
